Great day at the Wiltshire Cavy show
Satin sow ‘Varnish’ won the following:
Rare variety cavy club (RVCC) diploma for best full standard (best satin)
Best juvenile full standard
And in Wiltshire show best juvenile non self and 2nd best juvenile exhibitor.
Our Pet called ‘Penny’ also did well, 3rd best juvenile pet out of 22.
Jasper and his friends all think it’s a good morning – I have been out foraging this morning for grass with a huge pair of wallpaper scissors. you can’t beat a bit of fresh grass to give the pigs for breakfast – lots of appreciative squeaks.
Grass is free and really good for them, just make sure its from a place that is not contaminated from road pollution or other animals.
Congratulations Vogue and Kenzo – a lovely little teddy litter born 2 days ago – hoping they are all going to be ok – they are tiny – smallest is 47g and biggest is 60g. Mum is being attentive and they are feeding so hoping for best x
Off to Devon County Show with some of our Piggies, hoping for some good results

Bubbles my cleaning out supervisor kitten has dropped in to see what is going on – no resting on the job today with him watching.
Our first ever satins were born yesterday – my sons little project – 2 satins and 2 saffron satin carriers – all boars but very cute. Mum and babies doing well. Hope to add more satins to the stud over the coming months and years. They fit in well with the creams.
Really pleased with this little cream litter born on 9th. 3 strong babies, one of each colour and mum doing great job. White boar, cream sow and buff sow
As you know we visit care homes and use Guinea Pigs for pet therapy, here is a link to a news article.
Making most of sunshine to get pigs bathed for Saturday show and hutches disinfected with f10. Perfect weather for piggies to be out on lawn while their hutches dry
Love the spring – half an hours weeding feeds the pigs – enough sticky weed in the garden picked to feed 60 pigs and a few dandelion for mums and babies
5 little cream babies were born on 13th February to first time mum Elspbeth and dad Campbell – 3 sows and 2 boars. Am hoping one or two will be nice enough to bring out on the show bench in due course . Mum is being so good and attentive she’s being rewarded with fresh grass from the garden
We find this chart is a very useful list of fresh food suitable for Guinea pigs and gives a clear indication of how often they can safely be fed.
It has been produced by the Australian Cavy Sanctuary.
Happy new year to all my piggy friends and followers. We have had lovely start to new year – Jigsaw and Bernie are proud to announce the birth of their piglets – 2 sows and a boar late last night – one sow is enormous (120g) hats off to Jigsaw that must have hurt !
Mum is fine and being very maternal and all 3 babies are lovely and lively and running around this morning when I went to check on them and give them some fresh grass from garden. Last year I had a litter of 5 teddies born on the same day !
Best feeling ever – came home after a night away to find my huge chocolate sow who was due last Tuesday has littered 5 healthy little babies, have spent the next few next few days trying not to disturb her too much at moment.
5 little beauties now 2 days old 🙂 All strong, eating well and running around – mummy pig Liza has done amazingly well – she is very maternal making it look easy !!
Went to visit some good friends this weekend and coming home with this adorable little chap – Sid – he’s coming to live with us having lost his companion of 4 years 🙁 going to let him settle into the pig shed and then try and bond him with a youngster once he’s settled in. He’s just demolished a piece of celery out of our hands and half a carrot very friendly little boy 🙂
Had lovely day at St Austell today – no rosettes but was really pleased that my homebred teddy sow Crunchie won her breed class and came second in u5 coated challenge and my homebred chocolate sow Belinda also won her class and came 3rd in u5 self challenge
